We met in the multi-purpose room due to class pictures in the commons. It's always tricky to hold rehearsal with the breakfast bunch in the background. I had a little help with the warm up segment and music map. Can you conduct "Simple Gifts?" The choristers can!

As we experience music together, we also feel safe and comfortable sharing with each other. At the end of rehearsal, Ella asked to play the piano. Many choristers gathered around as they heard her play a Kuhlau Sonatina (very musical, spirited, and very well performed--I might add). I love these after-choir moments as well as the in-choir fun we have. Notice, they are getting better at sitting at the front edge of their chairs during rehearsal when we aren't standing. Now to work on feet flat instead of legs crossed.
As we started work on The Three Bears and the Blond Thief eyes lit up and smiles and snickers emerged from hearing the magical music and fun words they get to sing. Can't wait to share it when it's finished as well as the Americana music they have been working on. We started with a pop song (and I don't know the title) and felt the beat with our swinging arms. They loved it because they recognized it from the radio. We tried it a few times as a round.
I wore my Fitbit today and logged 2,600 steps during rehearsal. I realized on the way to rehearsal that I forgot all the choir boxes and attendance sheets. I did have my outline and supplies. On the way home my Staples Easy Button kept going off and reminding me, "That was easy." I guess it was. So, we started with the "over-the-top" word song. I'm surprised that many choristers have never seen Mary Poppins! Thankfully it's super-easy to learn this Disney music.
Below are some photos of the signing for "Peace Like a River" and putting chairs and folders away. One group proved that they could put their music and folders away in numerical order and I gave everyone a sweet challenge to do so for this week. One of the girls didn't want her group to miss out so she made sure all the folders were facing the correct way and that they were all in numerical order. Way to go Sammi! Thanks for your help! |
